Writing text for Museum exhibitions and displays has a range of purposes, this text can give information, tell a story or help us to emotionally connect to a theme or experience. Good text creates a “way in” to looking at and understanding an object, place, time or person, it causes us to stop, think and then leave wanting to know more.

This session looks at techniques and approaches for writing Museum texts such as object labels and concept labels and uses this process as an opportunity to practically explore writing engaging and informative text, editing research and information, focusing on key messages and exploring how tone and voice can appeal to and engage different audiences.

This session uses themes and information connected to Byron and his life as a starting point and the day includes a Byron focused tour of Newstead Abbey, led by an experienced guide, where pupils can see and experience how we bring to life the stories, objects and places pertinent to the life of Lord Byron, here at Newstead Abbey.
