Victorian School Room and Nursery Days

KS1 History: changes within living memory and beyond living memory; understanding some of the ways in which we find out about the past

Dress up as Victorian schoolchildren, practise the ‘Three R’s’ in the schoolroom and see the difference between classrooms and lessons then and now. Sit up straight and don’t fidget or the teacher will have to use the finger stocks and backboard to correct your bad habits.

After our lesson, the group have a chance to explore Newstead Abbey's Victorian Nursey Attic, look into Nanny’s bedroom (she looked after the Webb children at Newstead), and also Miss Augusta Webb’s bedroom where we play a memory game with household Victorian artefacts. We also learn about the Webb children themselves and what life was like for them at Newstead.

Duration: 1.5 hours | 10.30am–12pm or 1pm–2.30pm

Cost per session:£5 per child
