Open the Toybox! KS1
KS1 History: changes within living memory and beyond living memory; understanding some of the ways in which we find out about the past
Open Great Granny’s toybox - what can we see? Did she have toys like ours? What differences can you discover? Do we have any toys like the ones she played with? What were her toys made of and how did they work? Were there different toys for boys and girls or rich and poor children in those days?
The children find out the answers to these questions by looking at original old fashioned toys from the museum’s collection, some of which are demonstrated for them.
Then they re-discover the fun that was had then and the skills they would have needed by playing with reproductions of some of the toys they’ve seen.
